This year, the group has turned to Lonna Kelly and LEAF, the Local Education Advancement Foundation, where the equally formidable local dynamos dedicate themselves year after year to raising funds to augment the school budget and bring special enhancements into the educational experience at the Pawling schools.
"Swing Into Summer" is in its third year. It was a PTA event for the first two years. The PTA covers the Pawling Elementary School only as of this year, so LEAF has been asked to sponsor the tournament because it covers the entire school district.
Thus the golf tournament is an event not to be missed this year, as it is being brought to you by Lonna Kelly, Trisha Johnson, Gina Reynolds, Helena Bellucci, Donna Pagliaro, Steven Fleischman, Christine and Robert Walters, and other LEAF members that include Sonya Abbye Taylor, Sara Von Burg and Cheryl Egdemir.

The Local Education Advancement Foundation (LEAF) effort is entirely volunteer driven and directed. LEAF is a 501(c)3 non-profit
organization founded in 1999. The organization has raised over $100,000 since its founding and has established two programs that they prioritize for funding, the after-school hours at the high school library and the Mini-Grant Program.
The high school library is open late three days a week through LEAF funding. The library is well utilized in those hours and usage has grown tremendously since LEAF implemented the program.
The Mini-Grant Program allows staff and teachers to apply for small grants. Up to $200 per teacher is allocated and many teachers pool their requests to purchase larger items. Building principals sign off
on the applications. In general these are not large items but, for
example, teachers will request books for their classroom libraries,
funding for plants and seeds for the high school courtyard and magazine subscriptions. One elementary school teacher created math and literature bags with games and a related book for children to take home with the supplies and canvas bags purchased by LEAF.
LEAF members also suggest funding projects where they as parents and community members perceive a need, such as purchasing lighting for the high school parking lot a few years ago and bleachers for the soccer fields. Larger purchases are made with the approval of the district to avoid conflicts or cause the district unanticipated expense.
LEAF does not raise money for scholarships but to support education
within the district and for children attending the Pawling public
schools. They raise this money through two direct mail campaigns yearly and an occasional grant.
“Swinging Into Spring” is now a LEAF function, and it promises to bring in additional funding that will enable this worthwhile organization to provide even more support for the public schools in Pawling.
