Sherman Chamber Ensemble April 26
The Sephardic tradition blends the ritual music of the medieval Jewish communities of Spain and Portugal with the influences of the Mediterranean regions such as North Africa, Turkey and Greece to which they were exiled in the 17th and 18th centuries, along with elements of Western European Baroque and Classical music. The result is a vocal and instrumental repertoire that is deeply spiritual while still expressing rhythmic vitality and melodic tenderness.

Brewster Theater Company Plans Membership Gala
The Brewster Theater Company extends an invitation to its members and those interested in hearing more about membership to join them at their Annual Meeting and 2008 Season Kick-Off Party on Saturday, January 12 at 7:00 pm at St Andrew’s Church, Prospect Street in Brewster.
The evening will begin with a short meeting where the public can meet candidates and take the opportunity to join as a member and, if a member, vote for the 2008 Board of Directors. They will also hear more about the 2008 season including shows, readings, and special events and learn about committees and ways to get involved in BTC.
Following this, BTC will kick off the 2008 season by celebrating the 2007 season. Planned events include a 5 minute reprise of each 2007 BTC production and an awards ceremony to recognize individuals who helped make the 2007 season a success. Other entertainment will include a DJ and dancing, open mic, and refreshments.
“The theater group is burgeoning and the opportunities to participate in it are endless,” says Debbie Levin, the current board president. “Whether you want to perform, work backstage, or take a role on one of our many committees, we welcome all comers.”
A Texas transplant, Ryan Dietzen of Carmel joined the theater group on a personal bet in 2003 when he dared himself to audition for Elizabeth Joyce’s Good Women, Lousy Men. Now the board’s vice president, Ryan says his 5 years with BTC has not only given him opportunities to act and produce, it has become a social outlet as well. “When you enjoy the people you ‘work’ with it makes all the difference. Now, I have a whole theater company of friends to hang out with.”
The snow date for this event is Saturday, January 26. Log onto www.brewstertheatercompany.org or call 845-598-1621 for more information.
