Brewster Tournament

Saturday game will be at either 5:30 or 7:00 p.m.

The Dover Dragons field hockey varsity will defend last year’s tournament championship at the prestigious Brewster Invitational Field Hockey Tournament this Friday and Saturday night.

Coach Kara Acken invited Dragon fans to attend the always exciting tournament.

Acken said of her team, “The girls are incredibly pumped for the Brewster Tournament. They have such pride for Dover and thrive on great competition.  They are looking forward to a fun, intense rivalry battle this weekend."

Dragon fans are encouraged to attend at 5:30 Friday evening to see the opening game against Fox Hills. The games are played in the stadium on the middle school campus in Brewster. Visit the Dover Athletic Department website for information and directions to the games at Brewster.

This very capable Dover team played the always outstanding Pleasantville Panthers to a scoreless draw on October 10, in a game where the Dragons dominated possessions, shots on goal and penalty corners, but were unable to drive in a goal.

As coach Acken said, “The girls have been playing well and fighting to the end of the each game lately.  We have not been able to capitalize on a goal, but the teamwork, communication and flow of the game has been smooth and exciting to watch. They are certainly goal hungry and their time will come. As long as they keep playing with heart, confidence, and stay focused, their time to shine will come when it counts most.”

Dover had what appeared to be the game-winning goal by Michelle Djonovic and Meghan Lahm, but the goal was dis-allowed by the referees when they called an obstruction in front of the goal. Lahm had sent the ball into the circle from the right side, where Lahm, Djonovic, Kayla Baruffo, Carly Anderson and Gina Perry converged to power the goal past the defense and the keeper. It seemed difficult to see how an obstruction could have been called in that melee of activity.

The Dover roster includes seniors Michelle Djonovic, Carly Anderson, Allie Rinaldi, Alicia Tamboia, Kayla Baruffo, Lisa Quaglina and Chrissy Schiavo, juniors Cassie Hyatt, Gina Perry, Kasie Loverro and Erin Franco, sophomores Meghan Lahm, Ali Emerson and Alexa Schwall,  and freshman Alexandra Abrams.
