The Dover Dragons improved their remarkable season record to 4-1 with a hard-fought win at home on September 20 over Tuckahoe.
Kayla Campbell scored for Dover in the first half to take the 1-0 lead. Midfielder Kaitlyn Chopay sent a through pass up the right side, with Campbell able to run it down, pull the keeper out, and run in behind the keeper and send the ball inside the right post for the goal.
Dover completely dominated the first half to take the 1-0 lead into the break, but Tuckahoe came out in the second half determined to make a game of it.
Dover keeper Erin Wood had a great day in goal, allowing just the one goal in the second half on a breakaway that tied the game at 1-1.
Angela Scaramellino scored the game-winning goal when she received a pass from midfielder Kelsey Ellingsen with her back to the goal, managed to turn, and fire a rocket under the bar for the 2-1 lead.
“There are 15 girls on the team,” said coach Jon Dolan. “There are eleven that start, but the starting lineup changes, and every one of our players gets into the game and they all make contributions for us. Erin Wood is the keeper. Our strikers right now are Kayla Campbell and Angela Scaramellino, and my midfield right now is Robyn Henke, Kelsey Ellingsen, Kaitlyn Chopay and Hayley Bauza.
“I run two up top, four in the mid, a stopper that is between the mids and the fullbacks, and three in the back, a sweeper and two fullbacks. My stopper right now is Alyssa Paciello and my sweeper is Maia Nguyen, and my two backs are Sarah Morehouse and Brenna McNeill.
“From the bench, Lauren Deutsch goes in as a striker, the defenders are Cynthia Mercado, Erin Savarese, Fallon McNeill.
“We are now 4-1 on season, with wins over Tuckahoe, Pine Plains, Webutuck and Blind Brook, and one loss to Solomon Schechter.
“Our first league game is on October 10 against North Salem. We are in a league with Pawling, North Salem and Haldane.” |
