The Dover Dragon varsity volleyball team won the first game at home against the very strong Brewster Bears, and continued to compete all the way to the end, before losing 3-1 at home on Monday, October 1.

Dover features an outstanding roster of Taquiyya Averhart, Shannon O'Creene, Julia Chopay, Katie Infantino, Sarah DeVries, Tashawna Averhart, Shannon Slater, Shevon Allen, Isabella Robisheaux, Aislynn Merling, Meaghan Somers, Cody Anderson and Gennie Bryant.

Setter Sarah DeVries (13), middle hitter Taquiyya Averhart (20) and outside hitter Julia Chopay (3) are a tremendous combination for the Dragons. The setter/hitter trio work very well together, and won many very aggressive points for Dover against Brewster.

The three team leaders received excellent support against Brewster from Shannan O'Creene (8), Isabella Robisheaux (6), Katie Infantino (14) Shevon Allen (2) and Tashawna Averhart (12).

In the fourth game, trailing 2-1 in games, the Dragons continued to compete and try to fight their way back into the match with a win that could have made it 2-2 in games.

Dover fell behind 10-14, but a pass from Chopay to the set by DeVries to the kill by Averhart brought the Dragons back to 11-14. After a service ace by Infantino, Brewster called a time out to stop the Dover momentum. That didn’t work, as Infantino won another service point, and served the next point that ended in another kill by Averhart.

Dover had tied it up at 14-14. Infantino served to the point that put Dover ahead at 15-14, before Brewster tied it up at 15-15.

Allen served a wicked sinking fastball that landed at the feet of the Brewster back line for a point and the Dragons were again tied at 16-16.

Dover surged ahead one more time at 17-16, on the Allen serve, and the point that was won on a pass by Infantino to the set by DeVries to the kill by Averhart.

Chopay smashed a cross-court kill from the left front for Dover’s 18th point, but the very strong Brewster team pulled away to win the fourth and final game at 25-19.
