The Dover Dragons defeated Our Lady Of Lourdes 25-21, 25-15, 25-20 at home on October 9th, showing coach Jen Fisher that the dedicated work in practice and a tough season schedule are preparing this Dragon team for a successful run in the postseason sectional tournament.

With a season record of 11-5, the Dover roster includes Julia Chopay, Katie Infantino, Sarah DeVries, Tashawna Averhart, Cody Anderson, Isabella Robisheaux, Shevon Allen, Megan Somers, Katelyn Mayr and Gina Ciardullo.

Fisher said setter Sarah DeVries and her teammates had an outstanding game against Lourdes, as is evident in the excellent stats Fisher reported from the game.

Fisher told the Herald, “Sarah DeVries had 18 assists, 2 kills and 3 aces, setting Meaghan Somers for 7 kills, Julia Chopay for 7 kills, and Tashawna Averhart for 6 kills.

“We played very well against Lourdes. We have been going through a rough patch, but we have worked a lot out in the past few practices.  Our schedule has been tough, as we have been playing a lot of games in a row with no real opportunity to practice and improve our weak spots. We have some space now, with only one game next week, Pawling at home on Wednesday.

“We did much better yesterday with our overall passing game and our communication.  We had been struggling quite a bit in those areas, and yesterday's game really showed some improvement.”

Court general/setter DeVries has established her command of the team offense, setting up middle hitters Tashawna Averhart and Katelyn Mayr, and outside hitters Julia Chopay, Megan Somers, Katie Infantino and Shevon Allen.

Isabella Robisheaux and Gina Ciardullo are outstanding on defense and on the service line, working with the front-line players in the rotation to give Dover excellent defense and service percentage.

Cody Anderson is getting quality time as the back-up setter, honing her skills and providing great sets for the hitters.

Middle blockers Tashawna Averhart and Katelyn Mayr and outside blockers Julia Chopay, Megan Somers, Katie Infantino and Shevon Allen have established their team timing and are a real force along the net on defense.

Dover will face rival Pawling at home on October 15th, with a chance to even the season series with the Tigers after the loss at Pawling last week.

Then it is time to prepare for a run at the playoffs, and the Dragons are peaking at just the right time to make a run in the postseason tournament.
