County Legislator David Kelly invites public to webcasting

Kelly announces that legislature is now webcasting committee and full board meetings

By John M. Benson
April 23, 2007

Pawling County Legislator David Kelly spoke recently about the newly available webcasting, the live televising of committee meetings and full board meetings of the Dutchess County Legislature.

The meeting tonight at 6:00 p.m., Monday, April 23, 2007, will be webcast live on the legislative section of the Dutchess County website.

Kelly said, “You will see on the legislative site that we have been webcasting meetings for the past few months. This is a new endeavor, and we in Dutchess County are one of the only county legislatures in the state that are webcasting as I understand it. We are breaking ground here, working on the forefront of the use of this technology as a means of communicating with our community. This is a good tool for the public who cannot attend our meetings. It is also a good tool for going back and reviewing what was said at the meetings.”

The public can access the county website at www.dutchessny.gov and navigate to the section for the county legislature.

Visitors may also go directly to the county legislature section of the county website.

“We have some very important matters before us on Monday evening,” Kelly said. “People can go to the website and see the full agenda for the meeting, then switch over to the webcasting and follow the meeting live.” (See links below.)

Kelly said there will be a vote the continuation of the ¾ of one percent sales tax that is up for the vote by the full legislature.

There are five bond resolutions that involve the Department of Public Works, ranging from the purchase of vehicles and equipment for the Department of Public Works, two bonds that deal with bridge repair and replacement for bridges the county is responsible, and a bond for re-paving of road surfaces by the Highway Department.

Two other matters on the agenda are especially because they are pertinent to last week’s storm. There is a resolution that deals with the Jackson Creek in La Grange, and there is a resolution on flood mitigation, both requesting cooperation of the state in these matters.

Kelly added about the archived webcasts, “The public can also find an archive of recorded webcasts of previous meetings. There are webcasts of committee meetings, and that is extremely important, because much of the discussion on the matters before us takes place at the committee meetings.

“The committees meet, and that is when we have our time to talk about the resolutions that pertain to our committee. Once the resolution is passed out of the committee, it is passed to the full board. We convene as a 25-member board where we take action on the resolution. It may be re-discussed in its entirety, or it may not be discussed at all. If it is on the consent agenda, it is simply voted on. If someone has a question or wants to make a comment, it can be taken off the consent agenda and placed on the non-consent agenda for discussion.”
