Thelma O. Cavaleri, 89, resident of Pawling, NY since 1944 passed away Sunday, May 27, 2007 at the Bethel Health Care Facility in Bethel, CT.

She was born in Fargo, Kentucky on March 11, 1918 to Bert and Marie (Stephenson) Freeman.  Mrs. Cavaleri married Vincent James Cavaleri in Drewfield, FL on July 21, 1943.  Mr. Cavaleri pre-deceased her in Jan. 1990.

Mrs. Cavaleri was very active in the community.  She was a member of the Girl Scouts of America for 50 years; in 1987 she listed in the Book of Honor, in 1993 she was named Pawling’s Outstanding Volunteer, and in 2003/2004 she received the National Thanks Badge, which is the Girl Scouts’ highest honor.  Mrs. Cavaleri was also Pawling’s Girl Scout Historian and was an active member of the  “cabin”; the Smith Johnson Scout Reservation Board from the time it restructured in 1995 – 2004.  She served as Treasurer from 1995 – May 2004.  She was also a member of the Quaker Hill and Pawling Historical Society, Past President and County Chairman of the American Legion Auxiliary, and a founding member of the American Air Museum in Britian. 
           
Mrs. Cavaleri is survived by her children, Tish Cavaleri of Ranson, WV, Marie Cavaleri of Chicago, IL, and James Joseph Cavaleri of Poughkeepsie, NY.
           
Friends may call at the Horn & Thomes, Inc. Funeral Home, 83 East Main Street, Pawling, NY Thursday 2 – 4 & 7 – 9 pm.  A graveside service will be conducted on Friday at 10 am in Pawling Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers contributions in Mrs. Cavaleri’s memory may be made to the Pawling Resource Center.
