LOIS I. KANTHAK
Lois I. Kanthak, 85, a resident of Pawling for many years, passed away Weds., May 30, 2007 at the Center for Rehabilitation and Health Care, Pawling.

Born in Canton, OH on April 6, 1922, she was the daughter of Oscar Edward and Hazel Jeanette (Stands) Kime. She married Robert Emmett Kanthak in Canton, OH on June 26, 1948.

As the wife of a Methodist minister, Lois lived in Pawling, Bangall, Chatham, Kenoza Lake, Margaretville, Phoenicia, Saugerties, Pleasant Valley, Pine Plains, and finally back to Pawling again where she has lived for the last nine years.

Lois worked in the accounting department and as a switchboard operator at Pawling Rubber Corporation, and later in the mail room at the Harlem Valley Psychiatric Center in Wingdale: she also managed a senior residents’ home in Chatham, NY. She was a former member of the Eastern Star and AGLOW.

In 2004, Lois was honored by the Town of Pawling when the street she and Bob lived on was designated as "LOIS LANE" by a unanimous vote of the town board.

“Lois was a sweet, gentle lady who will be greatly missed by her family and friends, and the staff and residents of the nursing home, whom she considered her second family.”

She is survived by her husband Robert; her son Robert “Doug” Kanthak and his wife Jane of Poughquag; her daughter Deborah “Debbie” Thomes and her husband John of Pawling; grandchildren Sara Guilbeault and her husband Michael of Danbury, CT, Angela Thomes-Klug and her husband Dan of Pawling; and Shaun Thomes of Pawling; Robert Kanthak and his wife Cassandra of Poughkeepsie; Timothy Kanthak and his wife Michelle of Wappingers Falls and Thomas Kanthak and his wife Angela, also of Wappingers Falls; great-grandchildren Brittany and Briana Kanthak of Poughkeepsie and Matthew and Meghan Guilbeault of Danbury, CT., and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She is predeceased by two sisters, Marjorie Morris Howerton and Thelma Kime.

Calling hours were on June 2 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Horn & Thomes, Inc. Funeral Home, 83 East Main Street, Pawling. A funeral service was conducted at Horn & Thomes on Sun., June 3, 2007 at 2 PM. Burial followed at Quaker Hill Cemetery, Pawling.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to The Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research, 1111 Stewart Avenue, Bethpage, NY 11714.

The family would like to thank all the staff and residents at the nursing home for the warm and loving care they gave to Lois during her time there.
