Raymond H. Patchey, Sr., of Pawling, NY died peacefully on Sunday Sept. 2, 2007 in Naples, Florida. Born on Feb. 28, 1924 in Ossining, NY, he was the son of John & Alice (Swales) Patchey.
Ray was a printer/compositioner for the Poughkeepsie Journal for over 30 years before retiring in 1989. He was past president of the Local Typographical Union of Tarrytown and a member of the C.W.A.
Ray proudly served his country in the Navy on the USS Auldt 698 during WWII and fought in the Army in Korea where he received the Purple Heart. He was a long standing member of the American Legion, the VFW, and the D.A.V.
Ray was past president of the Ossining Fire Dept. Holla Hose #5 where he was a 50 year exempt member, and chairman of the Fire Dept. Carnival.
In Pawling, Ray was very involved in Little League where he worked hard to expand the program so more children could participate. He was Little League President in both Pawling & Harlem Valley. Ray was a member of the Lion’s Club, and for many years was caretaker of the Pawling Free Library.
On April 30, 1949 in St. Augustine’s Church in Ossining, NY, he married Margaret Doyle who survives at home. In addition to his wife of 58 years, he is survived by his four children: Margaret Kimma of Poughkeepsie, Kathleen Jones (Gary) of Hopewell Jct., Raymond H. Patchey, Jr. (Eileen) of Red Hook, and Rosanne Patchey of Napels, FL; his nine grandchildren: Casey, William, and James Kimma, Elizabeth (Kimma) Rugar, Matthew, Stephen, and Andrew Jones, Anthony and Erin Patchey; his two great-grandchildren: Emily and Logan, and his devoted four-legged companion of the last 7 months, Bailey.
He was predeceased by his parents and his two brothers, John & David.
Ray was a communicant of St. John’s Church in Pawling, NY. He loved his family, golf, scratchoffs, The Yankees, and a good martini. He was loved for his sense of humor as well as his crankiness and will be missed by his loving family and many friends in Pawling and Naples.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, Sept. 6 from 2-4pm & 7-9pm at Horn & Thomes, Inc. Funeral Home, 83 East Main Street, Pawling. Hasler Kamp Post American Legion will conduct services at the funeral home on Thursday at 7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am Friday at St. John’s Church, Pawling. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Pawling.
