Mary Teresa Viola, 89, a former resident of Pawling, passed  away February 7, 2008 at Grand Oaks, Palm Coast, FL.

Born in Philadelphia, PA on June 21, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Nancy (Latessa) Donato.  In the late 1930’s and early 1940’s she sang with the Metropolitan Opera in NYC. She graduated from the New York School of Dietitians and was a volunteer at Holloran Hospital Auxiliary during WWII.  She was the unit chairlady of Child Welfare of NY for several years, and had belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary #1030.  During the 1950’s, she worked with the legion rehabilitation program at Montrose & Castle Point VA Hospitals.

Mrs. Viola lived in Millbrook, NY for several years and latter moved to King’s Apartments in Pawling.

She is predeceased by her husband, Daniel Viola, who died January 5, 1997 and her brother Frank Donato who was killed in WWII.

Mary is survived by two sons, Thomas Viola of NYC and Mark Viola of New Milford, CT; and six grandchildren, Gabriella, Lauren, and Kendall and Matthew, Anna Marie, and Danielle; and two sisters, Linda Willits and Nancy Gableman.

Friends may call at the Horn & Thomes, Inc. Funeral Home, 83 East Main Street, Pawling, Tuesday, February 12th. from 9-10:30 AM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at St. John’s Church, Pawling at 11 AM.  Burial will be in Quaker Hill Cemetery, Pawling, NY.
