Rose M. Whalen, 85, a long-time resident of Pawling, passed away Monday, March 31, 2008 in Pawling.
  
Born in Poughkeepsie, NY on August 6, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Lucy (Cook) Rooney.
  
Mrs. Whalen was the treasurer for the Village of Pawling for many years, as well as bookkeeper for many local businesses including Martin’s Country Craftsman, Hildebrand’s, St. John’s Church, the  late Lowell Thomas, and many more; she was a member of St. John’s Church.
  
Mrs. Whalen is predeceased by her husband, William Whalen.
  
She is survived by three sons, William Michael Whalen of Hyde Park, NY, Kevin Whalen of Ft. Collins, CO, and Stephen Whalen of Bethel, CT; five daughters, Patricia Martin of Pawling, Theresa Ryan of Dover,  Stephanie Scott of Poughquag, Colleen Yarter of Clinton Corners, and Mary Utter of Pawling; 15 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by two sisters, Ann Rooney and Jane Abrams.
  
Friends may call at the Horn & Thomes, Inc. Funeral Home, 83 East Main Street, Pawling, Wednesday, April 2nd 2-4 and 7-9 PM. 
  
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM Thursday at St. John’s Church, Pawling.  Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Pawling.
