Dover Game: Pawling at Dover 4:15 Thursday, October 18
The Pawling varsity field hockey team was outstanding at the Brewster High School Field Hockey Tournament on October 12 & 13.
The Tigers pushed Brewster to the final minute before losing 2-1 on Friday night, after leading 1-0 at the half on a goal by Jen Rabe.
Pawling and Fox Lane were tied at 0-0 at the half on Saturday evening, gave up just one goal in the second half, and had a succession of penalty corners and long shots with opportunities to score in the final minutes before falling 1-0 in their final game at the tournament.
Rebecca McKinney was named to the All-Tournament Team for her spectacular performance in goal, as she and the overall Pawling team defense held Brewster and Fox Lane to just three goals in the entire tournament.
The players are Becky McKinney, Alex Petti, Ariana Hamner, Sarah Apple, Caitlin Reynolds, Claire Olson, Tara Smith, Elena Herrera, Callen Maguire, Jen Rabe, Monique Lamond, Nora Johnston, Marisa Kaplan and Emily Coursen.
Coach June Lagan was very proud of her players and their performance at the Brewster Tournament, and was especially vocal about the great play of McKinney in goal.
“I am very proud of our kids,” Lagan said after the Fox Lane game on Saturday. “They played very hard and they played very well. They played an incredible game last night against Brewster, and it is difficult to come back two nights in a row and play at that level. This was a tough night for us, because we had our chances, and it just didn’t go our way. I think they are putting too much pressure on themselves to score.
“Rebecca McKinney was incredible in this tournament for us. She was incredible last night against Brewster, and she was outstanding again tonight against Fox Lane. She was awesome, and she has been awesome all season. She has been keeping us in a lot of games. She has been stopping a tremendous amount of shots. I think it was prior to this week, she had over 100 saves already. So, that is a tribute to her, she just has been able to step up and be a true leader out there.
“They were both great games, and we lost by just one goal in each game. We played hard and had our opportunities, it just wasn’t our day to get the wins. I am very proud of my girls.”
Pawling will play Spackenkill at home on Tuesday, Dover away on Thursday, and Pleasantville away on Friday.
The Tigers are now 3-0-1 in league, and 4-6-3 overall. In league, they have beaten Pleasantville once and North Salem twice, and tied Dover. The win over Pleasantville was very big in league, so they are having a very good season, and are looking to forward to finishing out the league schedule on winning streak. |
