Pawling allowed two quick goals at North Salem on October 15, but coach Kerry Pinelli gathered her troops and encouraged them, and the Tigers played tough enough the rest of the way to allow just one more goal in the final minute of play.

Pinelli has moved a number of younger players up from the junior varsity, partly to give the varsity squad some reserves so that the same ten or eleven girls don’t have to play every minute and tire in the second half, and partly to get the youngsters playing time and experience at the speed of varsity league play.

Jessica D’Ottavio was brilliant in goal once again, behind a defense led tenaciously by Jenica Ross and Liz Broderick.

Forwards Nikki Piazza, Rebecca Paugh and Brianna Dapolito worked hard and had a number of chances of goal, but were turned away by the experienced North Salem back line.

Kaitlin Basso, Emma Carlson and Andrea Benegas led the midfield in helping out on defense and transitioning the ball from the back line to the forwards.

The youngsters showed remarkable toughness and resilience in the struggle against the much more experienced North Salem squad, and the time on the field will serve them well in the next couple of years.
