The incredible growth and strength of the Pawling tennis team in just one year was evident on the road at Peekskill on September 24, when the Tigers won all five matches to win at 5-0 and earn the first shutout every for the Pawling program.

“Congratulations to the Varsity team on their first shutout!” said coach Ray Konchalski. “The Pawling Varsity Tennis team won all 5 matches against Peekskill, two of the 5 matches went 3 sets.

“Jenny Sosiewicz and Kate Demetri remain undefeated in girls’ tennis doubles competition.

“Devon Gulbrandsen and Natalie Smith needed almost two hours in the first singles match. The match went three sets with a tiebreaker in the third set, and that went to six-all with Devon winning 8-6. Devon played the hardest match of the season, needing every bit of fortitude and shot making to beat the number one player at Peekskill.”

Sarah Yurt defeated Nicole Spellman 6-3, 6-2 to dominate in the second singles match.

Earning an individual shutout, Katie Rosaschi defeated Amber Lozensky 6-0, 6-0 to finish the sweep in the singles matches for Pawling.

Pawling also won both doubles’ matches and the exhibition doubles match.

Playing first doubles, Sarah Gulbrandsen and Kristen McNamara won the first set at 6-2, faltered in the second at 3-6, but came back strong to win the third set at 6-1 and the match at 2-1.

Remaining undefeated as the second doubles team, Jenny Sosiewicz and Kate Demetri rolled to an easy victory at 6-1, 6-4.

In exhibition doubles, a combination of Christine O'Neill, Courtney Sypher and Georgia Costigan completed the Pawling team sweep with a 6-1, 6-2 victory.
