The Pawling High School Cheerleaders can’t wait to get on the field at this week’s first home football game.
Cheerleaders are allowed to do stunts on the grass field, so the Pawling Cheerleaders have been spending long hours getting ready for football season. The energy the provide for fans and players is a tremendous boost for the football team, and the Tigers are looking forward to a big and successful season for 2007.
The game is set for 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 8, at Pawling Elementary School.
The Pawling Tiger Athletic Club will be hosting a booth in the parking lot at the Elementary School as part of the Pawling Chamber of Commerce Garage Sale, so be sure to stop by and drop off a donation or to purchase merchandise you need for the kids in their sports activities.
Samantha Aiello, Jen Byrne, Alison Dominquez, Lauren Epstein, Christina “Chrissy” Eveland, Brittany Ferraro, Ariana King, Lauren King, Kendal Knox, Stephanie “Steph” Leal, Gabrielle “Gabby” McGrath, Ashley McPhillips, Christina Rutto and Holly Zima.
The coaches are Sara Von Burg and Crissy Groewegen.
Coach Von Burg was asked about the outstanding turnout for the cheerleaders, and the enthusiasm of the girls as they get ready for the home opener football game this Saturday.
Von Burg answered excitedly, “September is here! This means many different things to different people. School is beginning again. Soon the leaves will change colors. The weather will cool down slightly. Last but not least, FOOTBALL is back!
“The Varsity Fall Football Cheerleading squad has been preparing for football season by developing new cheers and routines, strengthening their movements and techniques, and bonding together to create a unified "family-like" team environment. Although our squad has many new members, the cheerleaders have been working diligently to teach and improve the team as a whole.
“These ladies truly have passion and energy. As you watch their routines, not only are you impressed by their sharp moves, creativity, and timing, but they exude "fun." The cheerleaders' smiles invigorate all those who look on.
"In addition to new members, cheerleading has recently become a sport. As a result, the coaches have been attending workshops on tumbling, stunting, choreography, and team building in order to become certified coaches. Stricter attendance policies, as well as certain tumbling and stunting restrictions are currently in effect.
“Even with new members, new guidelines, and numerous obstacles that were overcome, the cheerleaders are anxious, excited, and ready for the season to begin. They can not wait to travel to and attend games, perform their routines and cheers for the crowd, as well as activate the school spirit during events such as "Spirit Week" and "Homecoming".
“We hope that the community will attend as many football games as possible this season in order to show your support to the hard-working athletes, football players and cheerleaders alike, who have much talent and skill to share.
“We wish them all the best of luck this season and await many more great performances from this young, but talented squad.”
