Pawling Indoor Track
State Qualifiers
Pawling High School Indoor Track Coach Jack Power and his athletes are nearing the completion of an outstanding 2008-2009 season.
Coach Power reported today, "We recently had the state qualifier. We had some key people out due to illness, however we did have some great efforts by those who did attend.
“The boys 1600 relay team ran one of their best times of the year with Alex Chiera, Alex Maruzzella, Marc Reinert, and Kevin Hunter running 3:44.5. Freshman Kevin Hunter ran a tremendous anchor leg of 53.3 seconds. Earlier in the year Kevin broke the old 300 meter record set by former 400 meter standout Dan Papa. In only his freshman year Kevin could well be one of the sections top 400 meter runners for division II.
“The boys 3200 relay team also ran its best time of the year with Alex Maruzzella and Pat Callan running indoor personal bests for their legs of the relay. Alex ran a fast 2:07 and Pat 2:11. Brandon Freyer and Tim Yu joined Alex and Pat as the team ran 8:40, close to a new school record. In the 3200 run Brandon Freyer ran his second best time of the year running 9:45 to finish 4th in a talented field.
“Brandon and Caitlin Jelinek will be definite runners advancing to national level meets with Brandon running the Nike Indoor Nationals in the 5000 meter run in Boston and Caitlin running the 5000 meters in New York City at the National Indoor track Championships. Good luck, Tigers!”
