Village Mayor Rob Liffland and Clerk Jennifer Osborn have followed up on federal funding dedicated to road improvements in the Village of Pawling, and they have now announced that the funding is available to the Village for improvements on Reservoir Road and Grandview Avenue.
The Village of Pawling will receive $225,000 in federal highway funding, through the New York State Department of Transportation, to repave or reconstruct Reservoir Road up to the village line at Prospect Avenue, and the entire length of Grandview Avenue.
Sue Kelly obtained the funding for the Village of Pawling, and notified Mayor Liffland with a letter dated April 19, 2005 that read in part:
The Honorable Robert J. Liffland
Mayor
Village of Pawling
Dear Mayor Liffland:
As you may be aware, the House of Representatives recently passed the Transportation Equity Act, commonly known as TEA-LU. Below is a list of the project(s) that you requested which were included in this legislation:
$125,000 for Improvements to Reservoir Road
$100,000 for Rehabilitation of Grandview Avenue
Kelly visited Pawling and worked directly with Mayor Liffland, Wayne Osborn, Doug Warren and other officials of the Village of Pawling and the Town of Pawling to develop the applications from both municipalities with specific projects and requested funding levels.
The measure received final approval and became law with this money for the Village of Pawling included, and the administration of the funding was passed along to the NYS DOT.
Liffland and Osborn have worked together to keep track of the funding, and make certain that it would make its way to the Village of Pawling.
Liffland thanked Osborn for her persistence with this matter at the Village Board meeting on August 20, and told this reporter the next day,
“Jennifer has done a great job of helping the Village of Pawling get this money. Once we received the PIN number, that is the confirmation. We all work as a team in the Village. When you do that, you get more things done for the betterment of the community, and that is our goal. Getting these grants is one way we are able to get these projects done, and with less burden on the taxpayers. Our Street Foreman Doug Warren and his crew have been working all summer on the ditch on Reservoir Road, and they have done such a great job, that there is money left in the $20,000 grant for the them to reconstruct the ditch on the other side of Reservoir Road. We are very lucky to have Doug Warren and his great crew. Because they are able to do this work, we are able to just use the grant money for materials, and the grant goes a lot further. Now, we are going to be able to complete the full project on Reservoir. Village Engineer Joe Zarecki, Doug Warren and I walked the road today, and we know what we will be doing with the road.
“With the traffic light at Route 22, the rebuilt ditch to slow down the storm water and keep it off of the road, and with the reconstruction of the surface of the road with the federal grant, Reservoir Road will be improved up to the village line at Prospect. It is a very important road. With the school buses and families using the road, plus the theater events and everything else that goes on at the high school and middle school, it is very important that Reservoir Road be safe and in good shape.”
